When you start to see red, white and blue decorations on sale after Easter, it’s hard to get summer off your mind. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the season, and I love to kick off the weekend by decking out my patio in Patriotic decor. It’s like Fourth of July light for me, and really gets me in the mood to turn on the grill and drink some iced tea.
I stumbled upon these lemon and yellow gingham plates and the blue striped place mats at Home Goods recently. I just knew they would blend together perfectly, and I think I was right! Pairing them next to some navy blue linen napkins I already had made sense, especially after I dug through my ribbon box and found some yellow to tie around as napkin rings. Typically I would purchase cut florals at my local grocer to complete a table, but over Mother’s Day weekend I got a few flowers for the patio, including my favorite – blue hydrangea! It made the table that much more casual and organic to have a live plant as the centerpiece.
It’s not much, but it’s nice to have a space like this in the city! It’s a lot more than most, so we’re grateful to be able to go outside for grilling, dining and lounging. Happy almost summer, everyone! Enjoy the long weekend, and I hope I’ve inspired you to host your own patriotic outdoor party!
