These Chicago family photos in Winnemac Park last summer were full of luscious golden hour light, wildflowers, and plenty of toddler smiles! I have photographed at Winnemac Park in the fall before, but never the late summer. Look, I know it’s popular and desirable to get your family photos taken in the fall, but I must admit that one of my favorite times to take them is in late summer. In August and early September it is guaranteed warmth (in Chicago), and there are parks throughout the city that have the most beautiful wildflowers as the backdrop to your classic family portraits. It’s understandable that moms with young children would want their upcoming holiday card to reflect what their child looks like in that season, but unless they are a newborn, I would argue that they won’t look THAT much different! Here’s what you have to gain: warm weather, a different look for your card this year, happy and smiley babies/kiddos (because it’s warm!), more flexibility from your family photographer (because the fall is crazy y’all).
For all my north Chicago families, you have to try out your Chicago family photos at Winnemac Park! You don’t need to drive all the way downtown or to Lincoln Park for your session. Classic family photos are at your doorstep here. The willow trees, gardens, and nature paths are in plenty! Also, plenty of parking! I’ve never had any families have trouble. That’s saying a lot for Chicago. Honestly it is one of my go-to places, even if you aren’t a North Chicago dweller. I think we all crave a little nature sometimes, and you’d never know this park is smack dab in the middle of a bustling city!
I just loved this session! We had the most perfect golden light, and the wildflowers were out to show off. Not to mention, this baby boy (or should I say toddler!) was all giggles and fun with his mom and dad. I’ve also taken families with multiple children here before for family photo sessions, and it’s been amazing. Enjoy some of my favorites!
