A Mount Ida Wedding | Charlottesville, Virginia

The day started at the bride’s parents’ house, and I couldn’t think of a better way to begin the best day of your life. Their home was so warm and inviting, bustling with friends and family enjoying coffee and breakfast while the girls had their hair and make-up done. With the fire going and the smell of bacon and coffee in the air, I watched as cards were being played and listened to the calm chatter of old friends. There was no rush, no worry, no pretension. It was the perfect start to a beautiful, winter wedding day.

Though I live in Chicago, Virginia is my home, so it was a treat to come back to my state to photograph such a special occasion. Mount Ida Farm is a gorgeous venue for a winter wedding! The barn, rolling hills, the lake, the plantation house on the other side of the property…it was a photographer’s dream. I was just swooning over the winter white florals, Beth’s toule skirt and lace sleeves and the color palette of french blue paired with greens and metallics.

One of my favorite moments of the day was when Mike + Beth had a time of prayer together without seeing one another. It was so tender and emotional as they clasped their hands around the barn door while Mike asked the Lord to bless their day and marriage. My other favorite moment had to be when the bride surprised her grandfather with cards and a cake, since it was also his birthday! How sweet can you be to deflect from your own wedding day to honor and love your grandfather!? She also included other special touches like having a picture of her grandmother in the room while she put on her dress, and tying her old locket around her bouquet. Quite the thoughtful and sentimental bride!

Mike + Beth, thank you for inviting me to capture such a special time in your lives! Your wedding day was beautifully cozy, tasteful, impeccably decorated and most importantly, Christ honoring! Of course, the day wouldn’t have been possible without these amazing vendors below:
