Chicago Family Photographer | Montrose Harbor

I just adore this family! They were among those Chicago families that I practiced on when I bought my first camera, and have remained faithful to me as my business has grown! Every year they reach out to get updated portraits done for the twins’ birthday. Kids are definitely in the business of growing, and before you know it everything about them has changed. I really admire parents who recognize the importance of their family legacy by investing in photographs each year.

When I first met the twins a few years ago they were very shy and reserved, but now they definitely love to chat and giggle. That’s the thing about being consistent with your family portraits – not only can you see the physical growth of your children, but also the blooming of their personalities as they become more comfortable with who they are.

We thankfully caught a warmer day in March to do their portraits at Montrose Harbor, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite locations for family photo shoots. The trees there, even in the winter, always diffuse the light perfectly during the golden hour. I also love this location because not 50 yards from the nature preserve is the stunning Chicago skyline.

My focus during each family portrait session is fourfold – 1) family portraits, 2) individuals of the kids, 3) photos of just mom & dad 4) and some sillies. Every mom, I don’t care who she is, wants that picture of everyone looking at the camera and smiling so that she can hang it on their living room wall. Although that can be a challenge some days depending on the moods of the littles, I recognize it’s importance and don’t want to leave our time together without capturing those. The other photos, though, are tied for my favorites. I love finding the personalities of the kids…I love when mom & dad want some of just them…and I love when a family feels vulnerable enough to just laugh and be them.

Enjoy some of my favorites!
