Chicago Family Photographer | Montrose Harbor in Fall

As I’ve raved about before, Montrose Harbor is one of my favorite Chicago portrait spots for any season. I especially love how in the fall/winter the tall grasses coupled with the light over the horizon create the most beautiful glow around my families. This extended family was especially fun. Everyone was in town for Thanksgiving, and they decided to surprise their mom with portraits while they were all together. It was a total surprise for sure, and she loved every minute!

I will never forget the joy I saw in her that seemed to just be part of who she was. Joy is peculiar but also extraordinary. Unlike happiness, it is not based on our circumstances. It cannot be taught or forced or arranged by human control. It’s not even really a feeling, it’s more like a sustained existence. And when someone has it, it’s really easy to see.

Not coincidentally, the Lord brought this verse to mind as I was putting this blog post together, “Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.”(Proverbs 17:6) How true that is. Blessing always comes, in many forms, to a family built on a foundation of faith and love. What a privilege it must be as a grandparent to watch it multiply into the legacy you prayed for!

Now these guys knew how to have fun too, and definitely kept me laughing right along with them! The best photographs result from laughter, no debate about that. Laughter, joy and pretty light. What more could you need?!
